Xenooculi (Strange-Eyes) is a creature that I completed from conception to final shots. I began with concepting hundreds of different creature possibilities that can be seen here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/rRKdY6, Xenooculi is one of the two creatures I made for my Final Film that can be see here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/oAAaKz. After concepting I began sculpting both in clay (study) and in ZBrush and later began procedural python rigging in Maya. Mari was the main software I used for texturing. The animation was completed in Maya and rendered in Redshift.
---------------
The Xenooculi is a six-limbed creature that soars the skies and is related to both sharks and marine iguanas this apex predator traverses most terrains including the ocean. The Xenooculi often lay eggs on land near large rock formations. As a result of their size, sharp claws and poisonous bite they dominate the ecosystem in which they are living. Their bite has similar toxic proteins to that of the common Komodo dragon but where the Komodo's bite may take up to 3 to 4 hours to kill the Xenooculi's bite, depending on where bitten can be anywhere from an instantaneous death to 10 minutes.
