Predation Film with vfx breakdown
Xenooculi Turntable
Armatus Cornuta Turntable
Final shot texture/look dev break down
This is the short film I made in its entirety. Both of my creatures Armatus-Corunta https://www.artstation.com/artwork/WKaoav and Xenooculi https://www.artstation.com/artwork/R3ErEe began with concepting hundreds of different creature possibilities - can be seen here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/rRKdY6. I knew from the start that I wanted to present my creatures similar to how National Geographic presents wildlife. After concepting I began sculpting both in clay (study) and in ZBrush and later began procedural python rigging in Maya. Mari was the main software I used for texturing. The animation was completed in Maya and the groom was completed with xgen. Rendered in Redshift.
---------------
The Xenooculi is a six-limbed creature that soars the skies and being related to both rays and sharks this apex predator traverses all terrains including the deep ocean. The Xenooculi often lay eggs on land near large rock formations. As a result of their size, sharp claws and poisonous bite they dominate the ecosystem in which they are living. Their bite has similar toxic proteins to that of the common Komodo dragon but where the Komodo's bite may take up to 3 to 4 hours to kill the Xenooculi's bite, depending on where bitten can be anywhere from an instantaneous death to 10 minutes.

With radioulnar motion, Armatus Cornuta is unlike any other proboscideans . Their ability to rotate their forearm allows for them to grasp fruits from trees and feed themselves using their hands. They are omnivorous eating both fruits and fish. Their large weight and sometimes fierce temper make them a force not to be reckoned with. Their young are often preyed upon by Xenooculi a large apex predator that stalks from the skies and has a deadly bite. The Armatus Corunta have large horns used for protection and to fight with rival males. The gular pouch increases in vibrancy when in heat. They give birth to live young. The armour plating ranges in density allowing for more range of motion were still offering protection from predators.
